History: Heartly House is the only organization in Frederick County, Maryland, that provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse. We have been providing these services since 1979.
Mission: The mission of Heartly House is to end domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse, and to provide victims with safety, shelter, and supportive services.

Ending the Third Slavery
In 2016, Dr. Earl Lewis convened a meeting on slavery among 40 principle collaborators—scholars, organizations, and instiutions—at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Out of this meeting came the "Slavery and Its Aftermath" initiative at the Center for Social Solutions. This project aims to tackle America’s original sin—slavery.
